HEALTH SCIENCE II
Health Science II is an amazing opportunity for students who have an interest in a future medical career. Health Science II is a dual credit course that will allow your student to not only complete a college credit, but will give them an opportunity to obtain a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate. Being a CNA allows your student to be extremely desirable and hirable in the working world, as well as, looks great on resumes and scholarship applications. Being a CNA is not for the faint of heart. It is a lot of hard work to get this certificate. The state requires 60 classroom hours and 40 clinical hours. The classroom hours require that your student has amazing classroom attendance. They can only have minimal absences (including excused absences). Clinical hours are obtained at Baptist Memorial Nursing Home. They will be required to complete six separate eight hour days. During clinicals they will learn how to take care of the elderly. They will learn activities of daily living from taking them to the bathroom to playing BINGO with them. In conclusion, this is a great option for your student because they can receive dual credit for college, get a certificate before they graduate high school, and lastly they gain real world experiences that they can use for the rest of their lives.
Health Science II gives you an opportunity to join Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). HOSA is very concerned with getting information about all health career options available to the public, as well as, giving you leadership opportunities up to the national level. There are numerous medical related events to compete in to test your knowledge and skill. If you join HOSA you not only get the opportunity to compete, but you have scholarship opportunities as well. HOSA is motivated to be active in the local community.
